2016 College Summit Recap

The 2016 Northeast Diocesan Orthodox College Summit was held Sat. January 9th, at the St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church Greater Washington lead by Rev. Fr. Abraham (Vijay) Thomas who spoke on the theme for this conference which was "Being a Witness to the Resurrection," which is based on the verse from Mark 16:15 "Go unto all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” There was various sessions related to different challenges and struggles that our college youth face.

The conference was held in the presence of our Diocesan Metropolitan and President, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos. His Grace lead morning prayers and presided over the MGOCSM Northeast Council Meetings which were also during the same weekend. Vice President of the MGOCSM of the Northeast American Diocese, Rev. Fr. Aju Philip Mathews as well as the local vicars, Rev. Fr. Johnson John (St. Thomas, Greater Washington), Rev. Fr. Laby George (St. Gregorios, Greater Washington) and Rev. Fr. Anoop Thomas (St. Barnabas, Washington D.C.) were also in attendance.

The conference allowed for college students across the Northeast Diocese to network and share their issues they experience as College students. Many who attended felt blessed to receive such valuable knowledge before they start college or start their next semester with their Diocesan Metropolitan present. His Grace mentioned that it was a blessing to participate as it was His Grace's first time at the College Summit.
