Mid-Lent Devotional 2011 - Rev. Dn. Vijay Thomas

Dear MGOCSM North America,

It is hard to believe but it is already Mid-Lent. That being said, I wanted to remind you of a passage that is dear to me.

Revelation 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

This is a letter that the angel of the Lord is delivering to one of the Churches. It is a judgment on this Church that is not against Christ and yet not for Christ. Sometimes, I feel like we act like this lukewarm church. We are not cold and distant from Christ. We have so much activity. We go to Church and worship Christ every Sunday and we will be super active in all exterior ways.

However, in our hearts, we lack the fire that transforms our lives.

My hope for all of you during this Lenten Season is that you may be enriched with a fire for Christ that makes you more than just warm. I hope that each of you becomes on fire so that you may be transformed. My hope is that you can be leaders for your area - role models - witnesses of Christ's presence in your life.

We should all be living CHANGED lives.

If you are not living your life in this way, then I urge you to spend the rest of lent abstaining from the negative influences in your life. Spend the rest of lent in prayer, studying Scripture, and trying to re-focus your attention to Christ our God.

As St. Paul writes to the Romans, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12:2)

God Bless!
